There for one, there for all

We’ve found that the little things lead to bigger things. Check out how people’s lives were made that little bit brighter by receiving a Bag of Kindness.

Supporting all

Social transformation happens one life at a time. And as each person receives some of that light, they’re able to shine it on and on. Before we know it, the darkness has recoiled. Giving help and support to people is at the very heart of Love Christmas. Months on from Love Christmas 2022, we’ve seen stories pop up with a common theme – the effect that giving hope and kindness has on those in need.

Easing the pressure

One story that came out of St Werburgh’s Church in Derby epitomised what kindness in the cost-of-living crisis means. A recipient of a Bag of Kindness was deeply open about their personal circumstances.

“I had some awful choices this year. Do I feed my kids, keep them warm, or do I buy them a present? I couldn’t do it all, so I was getting more and more upset and feeling so guilty as my children were getting excited about what Santa would bring them – and I knew they would be so sad on Christmas morning. And there was nothing I could do about it. When I found Love Christmas and they told me they’d give my girls presents and I could say the kind of thing they’d like, I cried. I’d been so stressed, and this was such a relief. Christmas morning was amazing. Thank you so much.“

Illuminating and shining

At Armagh City Vineyard in Northern Ireland, the impact of a hamper really struck one recipient. After reading the card inside from children and adults, he felt a sense of renewal and appreciation. He told us that, because of what was written in the card, he reached out to his family who he hadn’t spoken to for two years. After years of having no contact, he spent Christmas with his family and began rebuilding his relationship with his parents. What a beautiful example of small acts of kindness being bright enough to shine on even further.

No limits

Churches, charities and other organisations were able to reach so many people during Love Christmas. The amount of Bags of Kindness that were given out is inspiring enough, but to know the individual stories of those who received this love and hope makes it all the more special. From what we’ve heard, we’re certain these positive acts will continue to shine through 2023.
